Afrobeats superstar Davido has sparked fresh conversations online after claiming that nobody could defeat him in a free and fair election in Nigeria, insisting he could even emerge victorious in a presidential contest.

The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, made the remarks during a recent livestream with online streamer Carter Efe. Although he expressed confidence in his popularity, he stressed that he has no intention of seeking political office for now.

According to Davido, the country’s electoral process discourages him from entering politics because he believes election results are often manipulated. He said he would rather continue making music until there is genuine transparency in the system.

Davido explains why he is staying out of politics

Speaking during the livestream, Davido said, “Nobody could beat me in any election.”

He also added, “I could even win a presidential election in Nigeria”, maintaining that such a feat would only be possible in a truly free and fair electoral process.

The singer further explained that he is not the type to quietly accept being cheated if election results were manipulated, saying he would rather avoid participating in such a system altogether.

Remarks spark fresh political debate online

Davido also revealed that he is closely monitoring developments ahead of the upcoming Osun State governorship election, saying the current situation leaves many Nigerians feeling disillusioned about the country’s democratic process.

His comments have since generated widespread reactions across social media, with supporters praising his confidence while others questioned whether popularity in entertainment would automatically translate into electoral success.

Despite the debate, Davido maintained that music remains his priority until he believes Nigeria’s electoral system becomes more transparent.
