American rapper Rick Ross has been released from jail after being arrested in Miami Beach, Florida, on domestic violence charges, including felony battery by strangulation.

Ross, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II, voluntarily surrendered to Miami Beach police early Thursday, October 1, 2026, before being booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at about 6:10 a.m.

The 50-year-old rapper was charged with felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery. His arrest followed allegations relating to an incident at his Star Island home on August 28.

Details of the allegations

According to an arrest affidavit, a woman identified by the initials J.K. told police that an argument with Ross escalated after he confronted her over an Instagram photo.

She alleged that Ross struck her and restricted her breathing during the confrontation, leaving her with injuries including a split or bloodied lip.

The woman reported the incident to Miami Beach police on September 29 and provided photographs of the alleged injuries, according to reports citing the affidavit.

The allegations came shortly after Ross’ former girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick, publicly accused him of physical abuse on social media and shared images of an injured lip.

However, authorities have not publicly confirmed that every social-media allegation was part of the criminal case.

Ross’ lawyers have rejected the accusations, describing him as wrongfully accused and pointing to the delay between the alleged incident and the police report. Ross has pleaded not guilty.

Ross released on bond

Ross appeared before Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy S. Glazer after his arrest. His attorney entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf, while the judge ordered him to stay away from the alleged victim. Reports put his bond at $5,000, although some jail-record reports have listed different amounts.

After posting bond, Ross walked out of jail and spoke briefly with reporters, firmly denying the allegations against him.

Despite the legal situation, Ross appeared focused on his upcoming travel plans.

The rapper told reporters that he planned to travel to Dubai on Friday, October 2, before heading to Paris on Saturday. He then joked about his plans for Sunday, saying he intended to have “a bowl of rigatoni with heavy marinara.”

Ross is scheduled to return to court for an arraignment on October 22. The allegations remain unresolved, and his release on bond does not determine the outcome of the case.
