In a video shared online, the lady explained that her father purchased the SIM card from an MTN outlet on July 28, 2025, and personally registered it using his National Identification Number (NIN).
However, on November 30, 2025, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly arrested him over an offence linked to the number’s previous user. He was reportedly detained until December 2 before being released after his daughter’s video about the incident went viral.

The lady disclosed that the family was thrown into another difficult situation when Interpol invited her father on October 30, 2026, following an investigation involving five other people he had contacted using the number.
She alleged that investigators discovered the same phone number had previously been linked to the DSS case, but the earlier arrest had not been communicated to them.

The lady accused the telecom provider of negligence, questioning why a phone number allegedly linked to a previous criminal investigation was reassigned without its records being properly resolved.

She further disclosed that her father had suffered embarrassment and social isolation because of the repeated allegations, adding that the family intends to sue the company over the distress they have experienced.

She maintained that they have evidence of the arrests and insisted that no family should have to go through such an ordeal.
