Nigerian singer, filmmaker and entrepreneur Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has revealed how losing the 2023 election changed his perspective on life, faith and purpose as he celebrates his first anniversary as a pastor.

The entertainer shared his experience in a lengthy social media post, explaining how the disappointment pushed him to seek God’s direction concerning his future.

Banky W disclosed that he initially struggled to choose between politics, entertainment, business and ministry. However, he eventually realised that he could pursue multiple passions without abandoning any of them.

Reflecting on his political disappointment, he wrote, “In 2023, I lost an election. And while the experience inspired me in many ways, it also broke my heart into a million little pieces.”
He explained that the experience eventually led him to surrender his plans to God andreconsider his understanding of his life’s purpose.

How Banky W discovered his calling
The singer said he questioned whether his future lay in leadership, entertainment, business or ministry before realising that these paths did not necessarily have to be separate.

He wrote, “Turns out, God wasn’t trying to put me in a box. He was expanding my assignment.”

Banky W revealed that he now serves as an associate pastor and global ambassador at We Are Union Church, while also working as a teacher and leader at Union College.

He acknowledged that travelling between Lagos and the Washington, DC, metropolitan area has not always been easy but described the experience as worthwhile.
