A Lagos-based content creator, Big Mimz has sparked conversations online after declaring that dating in Lagos is nothing short of a scam. In an interview with Egungun of Lagos, she described modern relationships as transactional and filled with deceit.
“Dating in Lagos is a scam. Relationships these days are filled with scams,” she said. “If you don’t have money, you are not supposed to be in a relationship because Lagos boys can use you. So it’s better to use them for their money before they use you too.”

While she admitted to not having any particularly bad dating experiences, her perspective reflects the growing cynicism among young Lagosians navigating love in a city known for its fast-paced lifestyle and social pressures.
The content creator also argued that financial motives and pretense have become normalized in the city’s dating scene. “When you date for money, love will come,” she said, adding that, “Fake life wins in Lagos. If you check the people who have made it, they all faked it.”
