Buchi, in a viral video, questioned the reported expenditure on the vehicles amid Nigeria’s economic challenges, including rising food prices, inflation and the high cost of living.
The commentator also criticised the government’s priorities, arguing that the money spent on the vehicles could have been used to provide essential medical equipment and improve emergency healthcare services.

Buchi questions APC’s spending priorities
The controversy followed a now-deleted post allegedly shared by Israel on X, in which he announced the distribution of the vehicles to selected youth leaders.
According to Buchi, Israel wrote that the vehicles were provided to support election mobilisation activities ahead of the coming elections.

In the post quoted by Buchi, Israel reportedly stated: “Today, I presented brand new 2026 Prado to my committed selected youth leaders to aid their election mobilisation activities.”
The APC youth leader also reportedly expressed gratitude to Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her support for the party’s structure under his leadership.

“I am grateful to my mummy, Her Excellency Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, for her continuous support to the party structure under my leadership,” the post read.

Israel reportedly added that the party’s supremacy would be reflected in its activities during the election period, declaring that the party would deliver polling units.

Reacting to the reported distribution, Buchi questioned why political mobilisation required expensive SUVs when Nigerians were grappling with economic hardship.

“Your leaders are tone deaf, they don’t care about you,” he said, arguing that the reported expenditure did not reflect the challenges facing ordinary Nigerians.

Buchi highlighted the rising cost of living and the difficulties many Nigerians face in accessing basic necessities.

“There is so much hunger in Nigeria. Inflation is crazy. The cost of living is above the roof,” he said.

He further claimed that food prices in Nigeria were approaching or exceeding those in the United Kingdom, where he lives.

The social commentator also questioned the reported cost of the vehicles, claiming that each SUV was worth between ₦120 million and ₦125 million and that 10 vehicles had been purchased.

“By the way, each of them cost about 120 to 125 million naira per car and they bought 10,” Buchi said.

Based on his estimates, the reported purchase would amount to between ₦1.2 billion and ₦1.25 billion.

However, the figures cited by Buchi and the details of the reported vehicle purchase were not independently verified in the material available for this report.

Buchi compares vehicle spending with healthcare needs

Buchi argued that the money could have been directed towards improving healthcare infrastructure, particularly emergency medical services.

“There is almost no hospital in Nigeria that has a working ambulance system that is reliable,” he said.

He also referenced the death of a person he identified as Toluwasings, claiming that 10 hospitals had rejected him and suggesting that access to a defibrillator could have saved his life.

“If there was a defibrillator somewhere, he would have been saved,” Buchi said.
He argued that resources used to purchase the vehicles could instead have helped provide medical equipment and strengthen emergency response services.
“But no, let’s splurge it on cars. Let’s splurge it on our boys to help us deliver the elections,” he added.
His comments centred on what he described as a disconnect between political spending and the needs of Nigerians facing economic and healthcare challenges.
‘It is your democratic right’
Buchi also directed his criticism at Nigerians who support the APC, insisting that voters had the right to make their political choices but that he was equally entitled to express his opinion about those choices.
“It is your democratic right. The same way it is my right to have an opinion about your democratic right,” he said.
He subsequently repeated his criticism of the party’s supporters, warning that Nigerians who continued to support the APC despite the reported development would face further hardship.
“You have not suffered yet,” Buchi said, adding that voters should consider the implications of political decisions and the priorities of those seeking their support.
