Mohbad’s family bars Wunmi from using “Aloba” until DNA confirms paternity, seeks fresh probe

The family of late singer Ilerioluwa “Mohbad” Aloba has renewed calls for a transparent investigation into his death and instructed his widow, Wunmi, to stop using the Aloba surname until a court-ordered DNA test confirms her son’s paternity.

In a statement signed by family head Omolayo Aloba and Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, the family emphasized that it remains “resolute in its demand for a transparent, independent, and comprehensive investigation” into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.

The family also announced Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq. as its sole legal representative for estate and DNA matters, while Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN continues to represent them before investigative authorities.

Three administrators; Ajewole Aloba, Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Alonge Aloba were named to manage Mohbad’s assets, with one position reserved for Wunmi if the DNA test confirms her son, Liam, is Mohbad’s biological child.

The family further instructed Wunmi to “cease using the surname Aloba in public or private records until lawful confirmation of paternity is obtained,” highlighting that no statutory or customary marriage existed between Mohbad and Wunmi Adebanjo.

The Alobas’ added that if the DNA confirms that Liam is Mohbad’s son, Wunmi and Liam will be recognized within the estate administration process.

Mohbad, who passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. More than a year later, is yet to be buried, as his family continues to seek justice and clarity surrounding his untimely death.
