OOU student refunds N90,000 mistakenly sent to her account, receives N10,000 reward

A student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) has been praised online after returning N90,000 that was mistakenly transferred to her bank account.

The incident was shared by a Nigerian man who explained how the transfer error occurred while he was making a payment to a technician.

According to him, the technician had sent an incorrect Opay account number, leading to the money being credited to another person.

The man said he completed the transfer without carefully verifying the account name because the amount involved did not initially raise concerns.

He later discovered the mistake after the technician informed him that one of the digits in the account number had been entered incorrectly.

In his account of the incident, the man said: “A technician made a mistake while sending his Opay account to me yesterday.”

He explained that they subsequently reached out to the actual recipient of the funds, who turned out to be a student.

According to the man, the recipient responded positively and refunded the entire amount shortly after being contacted.

“We contacted the actual recipient who was very apologetic and understanding. This young lady, a student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, swiftly refunded the N90k to the technician.”
