OAU Student Sues Colleague For ₦15 Million Over False R@Pe Allegation

A 200-level student at Obafemi Awolowo University has filed a ₦15 million lawsuit against a fellow student who allegedly made false r@pe accusations against him.

The case comes after the accuser, identified as Adeife, issued a public apology retracting her earlier claim.

According to a statement from the legal team representing the plaintiff, David Ojuko Adefesobi, the allegations were made around February 17, 2026, and included the distribution of his phone number across social media platforms such as WhatsApp.

The lawyers described the accusations as baseless, malicious, and reckless, stating that they caused David to face public disdain, ridicule, and a serious blow to his reputation among family, peers, colleagues, and the wider community.

They further explained that the false claims have resulted in lost business opportunities, ongoing online harassment, threats, and considerable emotional distress. The continued sharing of screenshots and reposts, they said, has worsened the damage to his reputation.

While Adeife’s video apology acknowledged the wrongdoing, David’s legal team emphasized that the harm caused cannot be completely undone by a simple retraction.

The lawyers are demanding a formal written and public apology from Adeife confirming that the allegations were false. They also insist on the immediate removal of all defamatory content from every platform, along with a written commitment that no further harmful statements will be made.

In addition, the lawsuit seeks ₦15 million in damages to compensate for defamation, emotional suffering, and reputational injury. The legal notice warns that if Adeife fails to comply within 14 days, formal legal action will proceed, including claims for aggravated damages, injunctions, and all remedies available under Nigerian law.
