A Nigerian man identified as Usman Zannah has reflected on an unusual twist of fate, marking eight years since his best friend, Aliyu, married his former girlfriend.

Usman recounted that the incident occurred in 2017 when he asked Aliyu to test his girlfriend’s loyalty by attempting to woo her.
The plan, however, took an unexpected turn as the woman accepted Aliyu’s advances, leading to a romantic relationship between them.

What began as a test of faithfulness soon evolved into marriage, with the couple tying the knot and later welcoming a child.

Usman had first shared the story in 2019, noting at the time that his former girlfriend and best friend had been married for two years.
“Today has marked exactly 2years since I sent my best friend Aliyu to go and try to date my girlfriend to test and confirm if she can accept any other man over me. They are now married with 1 child,” he tweeted in 2019.

In a recent update posted on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Usman revisited the viral tweet to share that the couple’s family has grown since then. According to him, they are now blessed with three children.
“3 kids now and counting,” he wrote.
