Today, September 12, 2025, marks two years since the former Marlian Records singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, passed away.

Tributes have since rolled out from fans of the late singer globally, triggering concerns as his body remains unburied two years after it was exhumed for autopsy and investigation of his death.

Circumstances of Death

Mohbad died on 12 September 2023. Before his death, he was reportedly treated by an auxiliary nurse, who administered injections said to include tetanus toxoid, paracetamol, and an antibiotic. Shortly after, he suffered vomiting, convulsions, and other alarming reactions and was eventually taken to Perez Medcare Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Hasty Burial & Public Outcry

He was buried the very next day in Ikorodu, sparking confusion and criticism. Many questioned why official protocols weren’t observed, particularly since the body was not preserved for investigations.

The early burial raised concerns about proper documentation, autopsies, and whether the hurried burial compromised forensic evidence.

Investigations, Pathologist Reports & Inquest

The Lagos State Police exhumed Mohbad’s body for autopsy. Reports indicate that by the time the body was exhumed, it showed “moderate to severe decomposition” which hampered efforts to determine the exact cause of death.

Toxicology reports found an antihistamine in his system, but not in lethal amounts. Possible causes such as drug reaction or anaphylactic shock were raised, though they could not be confirmed.

A Coroner Court later concluded that there was no definitive evidence of foul play, but it recommended that the auxiliary nurse who administered the injections, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, be prosecuted for gross negligence and unlawful medical practice.

Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba (often called “Baba Mohbad“), has been very active in seeking answers and justice. Ahead of the anniversary, he released a tribute song and video expressing frustration over what he sees as delays and injustice in his son’s case.

There’s also been a paternity dispute. The court ordered DNA tests for Mohbad’s son, Liam, involving samples from Mohbad’s remains to confirm lineage.
