Nigerian comedian and actress, Helen Paul has recounted how criticism from people close to her husband, Femi, left her feeling inferior early in their relationship and marriage.

Paul said her boss once questioned Femi about dating her, suggesting she was not good enough for him. She recalled hearing the conversation and struggling with the comments afterwards.
According to her, the experience affected her confidence so much that she avoided attending the same church as her husband because she feared comparisons.

Paul said the insecurity followed her to her wedding day, where she opened up to Femi about her fears concerning their marriage.
She recalled telling him, “If we last two years in this marriage, I’ve tried. But if we last forever, then God is the one at work.”

She said the experience later taught her not to allow other people’s opinions to determine her worth, stressing the importance of focusing on oneself and taking care of one’s life.

How Dayo Adeneye helped change her career

Paul also shared how veteran media personality Dayo Adeneye helped transform her career after she was reportedly told she did not have the right “look” for a N15 million job because of her teeth.

She said Adeneye and D1 supported her financially with dental treatment after she explained that she could not afford it.

Paul added that her first television appearance after the treatment was on the Peak Talent Show.

She said when she later received payment for the job, she contacted D1 to ask for his share, but he encouraged her to keep the money and enjoy the opportunity.
