Veteran singer, Onyeka Onwenu reportedly passes away at 72

Veteran Nigerian singer, Onyeka Onwenu reportedly slumps and passes away after performing at an event in Lagos.

She was said to have died on Tuesday night at the Reddington Hospital in Lagos after slumping at the birthday party of Mrs Stella Okoli.

She had been attending a birthday party where she performed on stage, but suddenly collapsed after returning to her seat.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, she was pronounced dead; although, the cause of death has not been confirmed.

It is worth noting that Onwenu had a remarkable career spanning over 40 years, excelling as a singer, songwriter, actress, journalist, and politician.

With her first album released in 1984, she became famous for hits like “One Love”, “Iyogogo”, and “Ekwe”, leaving behind a legacy in the music industry.

the eyewitness said,

“She was taken to Reddington Hospital and she couldn’t make it,”

However, the deceased’s family has yet to announce her death as of press time.
