US Congressman Riley Moore shaken following his visit to Benue

US Congressman Riley Moore has expressed deep distress following a recent visit to Benue State, Nigeria, describing the humanitarian situation and accounts of violence as some of the most harrowing he has ever encountered.

Recall that the US lawmaker recently revealed that he visited Nigeria, amid investigations on an alleged Christian prosecution.

Moore, who was part of a Congressional delegation led by the House Appropriations Committee, said the team met with Bishops Anagbe and Dugu, as well as the Tor Tiv, during their visit. They also visited internally displaced persons (IDP) camps populated by Christian victims of repeated attacks.

According to him, the camps are frequently targeted by armed groups identified as Fulani Islamic militants. Moore recounted hearing “heartbreaking stories,” including that of a woman who witnessed the killing of her five children during an attack.

He described the experience as unforgettable and emotionally overwhelming, noting that it would “stay with [him] for the rest of [his] life.”

Moore to brief president Trump

The congressman revealed that he is now preparing a formal report to the US President, outlining recommendations for collaboration with the Nigerian government to curb the violence in the Middle Belt and address terrorist threats in the Northeast.

“I just returned from a Congressional delegation to Nigeria with @HouseAppropsGOP. While there, we visited Benue State.

We met with Bishops Anagbe and Dugu and Tor Tiv. We met with suffering IDPs who are all Christians. They are forced to live in camps that are regularly attacked by Fulani Islamic radicals.

We heard heartbreaking stories from survivors of this horrific genocidal campaign committed by the Fulani, including a woman who was forced to watch as five of her children were killed.
