Truck driver’s sentence was reduced from 110 years down to 10 years after many, including Kim Kardashian pleaded for him

Colorado’s Governor has granted clemency to the truck driver who caused the fatal crash that claimed 4 lives.

Rogel Aguilera Mederos, an 18-wheeler driver, was involved in a horrific pileup accident that resulted from the truck’s brakes failing.

He was not drunk or distracted at time of accident. However, he was sentenced for 110 years behind bars.

Kim Kardashian was one of the 5 million who signed a petition to reduce his sentence. They said he shouldn’t be in prison for the rest of their lives because of an accident that wasn’t caused by negligence.

The sentence was harsh and unfair, according to the public, since the whole incident was accidental.

The Governor of Colorado has granted him clemency.

Jared Polis, Colorado Governor, stated in his Dec. 30 clemency letter that “the crimes you were convicted are serious.” Your poor decisions led to the deaths of four people and serious injuries to others.

He added, “Though you have caused immense pain and I am encouraged by your personal reflect and the commercial vehicle safety modifications that were made in response to this tragedy to ensure this kind of event never occurs again.”

Rogel will be eligible to parole in 2026.

Kim thanked Governor Polis after Rogel was granted clemency. Kim wrote, “Thanks @GovoofCO, for taking action to reduce the sentence of Mr. Aguilera Mederos!” His new sentence is ten year, but he will be able to return home in five years to be with his sons and wife.

She said, “This case was an obvious example of why mandatory mins aren’t working and need to be abolished.” I am grateful to Governor Polis, for his compassion and leadership in this case.
