Finance expert and social commentator Gehgeh has sparked fresh online reactions after making strong remarks in defence of late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

In a video circulating on social media, Gehgeh called on President Bola Tinubu to introduce a strict law protecting Fela’s legacy from public criticism.

Call For Legal Protection Of Fela’s Legacy

While speaking in the video, Gehgeh said Fela deserves permanent respect for his contribution to music and African culture.

He stated, “President Tinubu should make it a law in Nigeria, anybody who talk down on Fela again should be jailed for life.”

According to him, Fela remains relevant worldwide despite attempts by some people to downplay his impact.

Gehgeh argued that many Nigerians do not truly understand the depth of Fela’s influence.

He said, “Many people don’t understand the influence of Fela. Talking down on Fela means talking down on Afrobeat.”

He insisted that Afrobeat would not have gained global recognition without Fela’s creativity and courage.

Wizkid Cited As Example

Using Grammy-winning singer Wizkid as an example, Gehgeh claimed modern artistes benefit directly from Fela’s invention.

He said, “If we remove Afrobeat from Wizkid, he doesn’t have any sound of his own.”

Gehgeh added that Wizkid is recognised internationally as an Afrobeat artiste, a genre he stressed was invented by Fela.

“Make Me President For One Day”

In a lighter but controversial moment, Gehgeh joked about leadership and strict governance.

He said, “Can they make me President of Nigeria for one day, then you people will see law.”
