Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele has faced criticism online after sharing birthday photos on Monday, August 24, as colleagues and fans mourn the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

The actress, who turned 49, shared glamorous photos on social media alongside a prayer of gratitude to God. She thanked God for remaining her strength and shield through different seasons, challenges, mistakes and victories.

However, the timing of the post sparked debate among some social media users, who felt she should have toned down her birthday celebration because the Yoruba film industry is mourning the veteran actor.

One social media user, Ayofe, questioned the timing of the post, writing, “Shey you no dey read the room no? Na birthday be the next thing to dey post?”

Another user, Olayinka Mujeeb Aden, criticised the actress, saying, “Aunty Funke, shame on you! We are mourning the death of Ogogo. And you dey post about birthday. Omo, this is not fair.

Funke had previously shared a condolence message following Taiwo Hassan’s death, but some commenters maintained that her birthday celebration was insensitive given the circumstances.

Kanel wrote, “If I were you, Aunty Funke, I woulda forgo the celebration of my birth for the year. Today should be all about the passing of Ogogo. But we are not the same person. Happy birthday to you, and I wish you long life in good health. I wish for you to continue to prosper.”
