Speaking at the launch of her beauty products in London on Friday, July 25, May candidly shared her struggles, including the pressure of settling debts owed to three banks.

“It was barely a few months when all the unprecedented occurrences came my way, I sat and watched everything go down the drain and it came at a time I had to repay three banks,” she revealed. “The banks had been helping me really good, but it was unfortunate that everything happened at the same time and I lost everything. While so much was going on social media, I was battling other things a lot of people don’t know about. In the midst of these, I still had to pay three banks loan, interests were piling. Like I said I had lost all my businesses, goods expired in my stores, everything went down. But because I believe in myself and I know what I am made of, I said no I am not going to be at the mercy of anyone.”

Although she didn’t directly mention the cause of her misfortunes, many online observers have linked the ordeal to her broken marriage with Nollywood actor Yul Edochie.
As reported in 2022, Yul stirred controversy after confirming his marriage to actress Judy Austin sparking tension between him and May.
