According to her, expecting couples to remain emotionally connected for decades ignores how people evolve over time, especially after major life events such as childbirth, loss, or shifting responsibilities.

“Humans change. Our behaviour, preferences, ideologies, everything changes. We go through things that literally rewire our brains, and it’s unrealistic to expect people to feel the same way about one person for 30 or 40 years.”

She added that many marriages fail not because of a lack of effort, but because partners grow into different versions of themselves.

The woman proposed what she described as a more practical structure for marriage, suggesting that couples should consciously reassess their union every five years.

“I think marriages should be every five years asking yourselves, ‘Should we still do this marriage again?’ If both people still believe they make a great team, then fine. But pretending marriage should automatically last till death doesn’t make sense.”

Rejecting the idea that love alone sustains marriage, she said biology and human nature play a stronger role.

“It’s not about love. It’s about biology. That’s why so many marriages are ending in divorce. People don’t feel the same way anymore, and that’s human nature.”
