A man identified as Jorim Okello has spoken on the ups and downs of his relationship with his wife, Irene Rono, while celebrating their 7th wedding anniversary.
The couple have been married for seven years and they are both born-again Christians.
In an interview with Tuko, Okello revealed that he met his wife in 2012 at a church service which he was invited to by his ex-girlfriend.
I was in a relationship with a lady I wanted to marry but she disappointed me. We continued being friends. She (my ex) invited me to preach at a local church in her hometown. Irene was part of the choir that was invited to sing and when I saw her, I fell in love with her,” he said.
The man said he had prayed for a wife, and immediately after the church service, he approached her and asked her to be his girlfriend, but she refused.
“Irene told me that she had a heart problem which nobody could understand her…I was convinced she was going to be my wife,” he narrated.
He further revealed that he pursued Irene for almost a year and in 2013, she accepted to be his girlfriend.
They courted for two years and finally tied the knot on December 5, 2015 in a simple wedding ceremony at an Eastleigh church.
Okello revealed that they were broke at the time they walked down the aisle.
He said; “I planned my wedding with KSh 400 (N1,452) in my account because I wanted to settle down the right way. My church members helped me raise almost KSh 100k (N363k), which I used for the wedding. We bought our rings (two of the) at Nairobi’s River Road area for KSh 3,500 (N12,700).”
The man also revealed that he paid only one cow for bride price, because he was poor, revealing that soon, he would be visiting his in-laws to pay the bride price again.
I want to take better dowry after 2022 election and will re-wed my wife in a big ceremony (renew wedding vows) now that God has blessed me.
We never went for the honeymoon. We got only KSh 2k (N7,263) from the wedding guests and used it to rent a room in Park Road on our wedding night and went back home the following day,” he said.
