Late Bbnaija Star Rico Swavey’s Mom Opens Up About Her Emotional Turmoil After His Death

Halima Hassan, the mother of the late BBNaija star Patrick Fakoya, also known as Rico Swavey, has spoken publicly for the first time since her son’s death in 2022.

Rico died in a car accident and was taken to a hospital in Lekki, Lagos.

In a recent chat with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Halima revealed her difficulties coping with the tragedy, mentioning that Rico was the second of her sons to pass away while she was still alive.

Halima Hassan expressed that losing Rico was hard for her, and she felt like she wasn’t herself anymore.

She said she wouldn’t have minded if he had been in a coma; she just wanted him to come back.

“It wasn’t really easy for me at that time, I wasn’t really myself. All I wanted him to do, whether he was a vegetable or he’s not a vegetable, let him just come out.”

“When he passed on, why I requested to stay with him at that very moment, I said to him ‘the music that you could not bring out, I will help you bring them out, I will do the remaining work for you, I’m not going to let your hard work just go like that.”

In the interview, Halima Hassan discussed her struggles with mental health. She explained how her friends and family saw her wandering the streets after Rico’s death, which prompted her to enter a mental health facility for help.

Rico’s mother mentioned that she has his pictures displayed throughout her house. She often talks to them, telling them about her day before she heads out.

“I still have Rico’s pictures all over the house. Every time I look at him, I smile and I say ‘Rico it’s another day for me, I’m going out today’ and I will try talking to the picture to tell him all my plans for the day, then I’ll leave. I say my prayers every morning, tell God to give me the courage to move on with my life.”
