“From menial jobs to working for govt in Canada” – Nigerian recounts

A Nigerian man based in Canada, Kwunkeyi Isichei, has inspired many after sharing his remarkable journey from working menial jobs to becoming a Digital Communications Advisor to Canada’s Minister of Families, Children, and Social Development.

In a now-viral TikTok video, Isichei opened up about his humble beginnings after arriving in Canada in 2021. His first job was flipping burgers at McDonald’s, followed by DJing at Nigerian events to make ends meet. Despite the income, he found DJing unfulfilling due to the stress and lack of appreciation.

He cycled through various roles in search of stability, working as a warehouse agent, an experience he described as physically draining and isolating, and later as a truck conductor, which he surprisingly enjoyed for the travel and exposure it offered, although he quit after two weeks due to confrontations on the job.

His next breakthrough came in aviation. Starting as a ramp agent at Montreal airport, he eventually became a plane marshaller.

“I used to land and park big planes at the Montreal airport,” he said with pride.

But the biggest turning point came when he transitioned into the media industry as a television reporter, his long-held dream. However, his career trajectory continued to soar.

In a LinkedIn post, Isichei detailed his current role as the Digital Communications Advisor to the Minister of Families, Children, and Social Development, describing himself as “the creative force behind the Minister’s online presence.”
