Former nun marries ex-Seminarian in secret after they fell in love while praying

A former nun, Lais Dognini, has tied the knot with Jackson Dognini, a former Catholic seminarian, after the two fell in love during a period of shared prayer and spiritual support.

According to O Globo, the couple’s journey began when Jackson offered to pray for Lais as she battled depression, a gesture that would unexpectedly lead to love.

The couple, who both dedicated years to the Catholic Church, met over six years ago while serving as missionaries but had barely spoken at the time.

Jackson spent five years in the seminary training to become a priest, while Lais lived for two years in a Carmelite convent devoted to prayer and service.

After struggling with depression, Lais left the convent and returned home to focus on her recovery.

During that time, Jackson reached out with words of comfort and faith, telling her he was praying for her. What began as spiritual encouragement soon blossomed into a close friendship.

Jackson drops out of seminary

Jackson eventually left the seminary after deep reflection on his calling, and in April 2024, the pair officially began dating. They got engaged in October 2024 and later married in March 2025, keeping their union private until now.

Sharing the news publicly for the first time on October 7, Lais wrote on Instagram, “It doesn’t seem like much, right? But let’s face it, we’re adults now and we know what we want in life.”
