Court sentence three to death by hanging for r*ping and killing Unilorin student

Three defendants were found guilty of raping and killing Olajide Blessing Omowumi, a student at the University of Ilorin, who was 24 years old, and were sentenced to death by hanging by a high court in Ilorin, Kwara state.

Remember how the 300-level student in Agricultural Sciences was discovered dead in her sister’s house, her mouth gagged with clothes and bruises on her private part.

Later, an autopsy revealed that she had been strangled to death and raped.

Abdulazeez Ismail, Ajala Oluwatimileyin, and Oyeyemi Omogbolahan were three of the eight people found guilty of the horrible murder that took place on June 2, 2021.

The Kwara State government filed suit no. KWS/33c/c/2021 against them, accusing them of 11 counts of armed robbery, illegal firearm possession, and r@pe.

The three defendants were found guilty of culpable murder punishable by death, conspiracy to conduct robbery, rape, and murder in Justice Ibrahim Adebayo Yusuf’s ruling.

The judge revealed that although the group intended to steal and rape without intending to kill, their actions resulted in homicide.

Each of the fourth and fifth defendants received a three-year prison term for the theft offense.

On the grounds that they had not been found guilty of any accusations made against them, the court had previously released and exonerated the sixth, seventh, and eighth suspects.
