“A Life Well Lived And Fought” – Olu Jacobs’ Family Announces His Death At 84

Veteran Nigerian actor and film executive Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

His son, Olusoji Jacobs, announced his death in an Instagram post on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

In the family statement, Olusoji described the veteran actor as “The Lion of Lufodo” while announcing that he died after a life they described as well lived and fought.

“It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo.

Born on July 11, 1942, Olu Jacobs was one of Nigeria’s most respected veteran actors, with a career that included work in British television, international productions and Nollywood. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London before building an extensive career in theatre, television and film.

Jacobs was also a co-founder of Lufodo Productions and, alongside his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, contributed to Nigeria’s theatre and film industry through the Lufodo Group. His son Olusoji is also involved in the family’s entertainment business.

News of his passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes online, with Nigerians remembering the actor for his memorable performances and long-standing contribution to Nollywood.
