Reality TV personality Kiddwaya has shared personal reflections about his father’s influence and his family’s alleged role in Nigeria’s political history.

Speaking in an interview, Kiddwaya described Banana Island in Lagos as one of the most expensive and luxurious real estate locations in Africa, adding that he only learned about parts of his father’s involvement in its recognition after a media interview.

Kiddwaya further recounted a story he said he recently learned, claiming his father had close ties with military leadership during Nigeria’s period of military rule.

According to him, after the death of former Head of State Sani Abacha, a close associate of his father allegedly assumed leadership and later sought his advice on transitioning the country to civilian rule.

He claimed his father advised that Nigeria should return to democratic governance, allowing citizens to vote for their leaders, a development he believes contributed to the country’s current democratic system.

“Banana Island is the most expensive, luxurious piece of land in Africa. It’s quite small, on the island in Lagos, I never knew he discovered it until he made that statement on BBC. My dad is very like that. He doesn’t blow his own trumpet. When you ask him, he will tell you.

And I have another fascinating story that I just found out. He hasn’t told anybody. I didn’t know that my dad was one of the reasons that Nigeria had a democracy. He was very close with the Army back in the day when we had military rule.

When Sani Abacha died, my dad’s close friend was the second in command, so his friend became president. So he came to the house, I wasn’t born then, he came to the house and said look, Terry, I’m president now, I don’t really know what to do, what should we do. And he said, give it to democracy. Like make it a democracy so the people can vote.
