Nigerian pastor detained in Benin Republic for two years over rape allegations

A Nigerian pastor identified as Benjamin Egbaji from Cross River State has been detained in Benin Republic for two years over an allegation of rape.

This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

According to Bianca Ojukwu, she visited the Centre National Hospital Universitaire (CNHU) where the clergyman, battling critical health issues, was detained.

The minister revealed that the clergyman was accused by a Beninese woman, Pede Victoire, of raping her 13-year-old daughter, Ahouandjinou Dona Sarah.

However, in a surprising turn, the victim later refuted the claim, which is currently under appeal.

According to Bianca Ojukwu, efforts are underway to secure justice for the clergyman.

Furthermore, she extended gratitude to the Benin Republic’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister for Justice, and Government for facilitating swift access to Benjamin Egbaji.
