A Nigerian married woman has sparked reactions online after reportedly turning down a ₦200,000 remote job offer due to childcare concerns, only to later reach out to the same employer asking for ₦20,000 financial assistance.

The story, shared on Facebook by Chioma Ifeanyi-Eze, has ignited discussion online about motherhood and the challenges of balancing work with raising a child.

Job Opportunity Declined

According to the account, the woman, who is married with an eight-month-old baby, was offered a virtual admin assistant role that would allow her to work from home and earn ₦200,000 monthly more than her husband’s ₦168,000 salary.

However, she declined the offer, explaining that she had no one she trusted to care for her eight-month-old baby while she worked, even from home.

Despite the employer suggesting she could hire help and still monitor her child closely, she maintained her stance, insisting that no one could care for her baby better than she could.

Following her decision, the employer reportedly became frustrated after encountering similar responses from other women and eventually hired a man for the role.

The situation took a dramatic turn when, two weeks later, the same woman allegedly reached out to the employer requesting financial assistance.

The post read: “You are a married woman. Your husband doesnt earn a lot. His takehome pay after tax is 168k. You have a baby of 8 months.

Someone offers you a job as an admin assistant to work virtually from home. Pay is 200k monthly.

You write back to the employer saying you have no one to take care of your baby.

“Employer calls and says, ‘Why not hire someone to take care of the baby while you work. Afterall the help and the baby are in the same house with you. You can check on them several times in a day’.
