Afrobeats superstar Divine Ikubor popularly known as Rema, has been honored with a royal plaque by the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II.
The prestigious award was presented to the singer on Thursday during his visit to the Oba’s palace, coinciding with his homecoming concert at Ogbe Stadium in Benin City.
This royal accolade follows Rema’s notable participation in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Edo Arena on Wednesday.
During the event, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki announced that the 6,000-capacity arena would be named ‘Rema Dome’ in recognition of the artist’s significant contributions to promoting Edo State globally.
Hailing from Benin City, the ward-winning singer has consistently celebrated his Edo roots through his music.
As a proud ambassador of Edo State, Rema has been instrumental in promoting the cultural legacy of the ancient Benin Kingdom on both national and international stages.
His latest hit single, ‘Benin Boys,’ featuring fellow Edo-born artist Shallipopi, pays tribute to his hometown.
In the song, Rema boldly asserts his deservingness of royal recognition from the Oba for his efforts in elevating the Benin Kingdom through his art.
