The talented actress Onyinye Okafor stands out as a remarkable figure who has successfully navigated a career devoid of drama, a rarity in the entertainment sector.
In a recent interview with Saturday Sun, the mother of four openly addressed the widespread issue of sexual harassment within Nollywood.
She emphasized the importance of consent, asserting that no individual should be coerced into unwanted sexual situations.
“I hear people say ‘producer and director slept with me.’ You were not slept with under duress; I’m sure you wanted it because if you didn’t, nobody would force or rape you to give you the script. I’ve been asked many times, but I never went along with it. It’s a choice, and I’m mature enough to know what I want. Even while in the banking field, where I did my Industrial training, my boss said, “Sleep with me; let me give you a promotion,” and I didn’t want it. It is my choice. So, everything in life has to get your consent first,” the Anambra State-born actress said.
Okafor’s ability to steer clear of controversies reflects her strong principles.
“I’m a no-drama zone, if you mess up, I deal with it immediately. I don’t have time to make videos or post online. My mental health is very important to me. I do not owe anybody anything nor does anybody owe me anything. So, all that controversy and drama is not my thing. I just want to be me and live for my children. I want God to bless me so I can give my children the best.
In a time when many celebrities tend to overshare their personal lives on social media, Okafor adopts a contrasting stance. She advocates for a clear distinction between her private life and public persona.
“I let you see what I want you to see. You cannot know too much about me because I’m not comfortable with that.”
