The controversy stems from an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, last Tuesday, when KWAM1 clashed with ValueJet staff after being stopped from boarding with a flask allegedly containing alcohol.
The aircraft’s pilot, Captain Ranti Ogoyi, claimed the singer spilled the flask’s contents on her during attempts to resolve the issue.

KWAM1 then reportedly stood in front of the aircraft, trying to prevent its departure, and narrowly avoided being struck as it taxied.
Following public backlash, KWAM1 issued an apology to President Tinubu, the flight captain, his fans, and anyone offended by his actions.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, a close friend of the musician, posted a video of his apology on social media with the caption, “Kwam1’s apology on the airport incident. To err is human.”
Many Nigerians considered her post insensitive, arguing it seemed to excuse the misconduct simply because of an apology.

“Ma, I just want to say that this is highly reprehensible. You don’t deserve to hold a public office.
You have set a very dangerous precedent with this tweet.
You have told Nigerians it is okay to commit a crime and can issue an apology to absolve yourself without consequences.”
