Nollywood actor and filmmaker Jamiu Azeez has addressed backlash surrounding his alleged conversion from Islam to Christianity, following a video of him attending a church service.

The Yoruba star spoke out amid criticism, defending his personal choice and right to religion.

The controversy began after Jamiu shared a video of himself in a white garment at a church crossover service.

The post quickly went viral, with some members of the Muslim community questioning the actor’s faith and urging him to change his name.

The video sparked widespread reactions online, drawing reactions from fans and critics.

Actor Breaks Silence

On Sunday, January 4, Jamiu Azeez took to social media to respond to the backlash.

He shared screenshots of messages and comments he received, highlighting the intensity of the criticism over his alleged conversion.

He wrote: “It’s only in Nigeria people are so bothered about another person’s life. Imagine telling a man in his 40s how to live his life. I posted myself in white garment on the crossover night and mehn, the comments I have been reading on blogs, especially on Facebook, are crazy. Some even came to my DM to drag me… I can choose to practise any religion and that should not be anyone’s problem. I never even came out to say I have converted o.”

Emphasis on Personal Freedom

Jamiu stressed that his religion is his personal choice and that he should not be judged for it.

He added: “No worry, I go wear babalawo cloth tomorrow.”
