Hilda Baci turns down buyers, says her famous jollof pot is ‘priceless’

Guinness World Record holder and celebrity chef, Hilda Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has said that the giant pot used during her historic jollof rice feat will not be sold or auctioned.

She made this known at a press conference on Saturday at the Gino Nigeria office in Lagos, where she described the pot as a national and global treasure.

“The Pot is a Symbol”

Responding to growing curiosity from fans and collectors, Hilda revealed that many people had offered to buy the pot or urged her to auction it.

However, she explained that the item represents much more than cookware.

“Oh, you may not have heard of it. Trust me, so many people have asked about that pot. Some people want to buy it, they said we should auction it,” she said.

According to her, the pot stands as a symbol of history, faith, and innovation.

She added that the process of building the custom-made pot itself carried deep meaning, making it too valuable to be sold.

“That pot is a symbol of a lot of beautiful things. It’s a symbol of history. It’s a symbol of faith. It’s a symbol of innovation… it represents many things,” she stated.

Hilda explained that she and her team intend to restore the pot to its original form and make it accessible to the public as a lasting source of inspiration.

“We’re not going to sell it. We’re going to make sure that as many people as possible get to see it in its glory. You may find it one day in a museum or even on your way to work,” she said.

She further noted that the pot had now become a landmark achievement — the largest pot of jollof rice ever cooked in Nigeria and globally.

Breaking Records Again

Hilda set the new Guinness World Record on Friday, September 19, 2025, in Victoria Island, Lagos, with the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice weighing 8,780 kilogrammes (19,356 lb 9 oz).

The attempt, carried out in partnership with Gino, was confirmed by Guinness World Records in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The record-breaking feat drew massive attention, with thousands of food lovers, celebrities, and dignitaries in attendance, including Funke Akindele, Ogun First Lady Bamidele Abiodun, Kaffy, Veekee James, Tacha, Papaya, Enioluwa, Alex Unusual, and Spyro.

Hilda, who first gained global fame in 2023 with her 100-hour cook-a-thon, once again brought Nigeria’s cuisine to the world stage with her latest jollof achievement.
