Five ‘undergraduates’ reportedly returning from nightclub killed as car rams into truck in Delta

Six people including five youths said to be students of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun, have died in an auto crash in Delta State.

It was gathered that the incident happened when a Mercedes Benz car rammed into a truck near Akala park along Ogwashi Uku-Kwale expressway in the state.

A witness told Punch that the incident which occurred around 4am on Tuesday, March 15, also involved some women who were going to market.

“It was young boys and young girls that were in the new Mercedes Benz car, they were between 25 and 20 years old. ” the witness said.

“The victims have been deposited at the General Hospital in Ogwashi Uku, headquarters of Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.”

According to reports, the students were returning from a birthday party held at a nightclub.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Ibrahim Abubakar, confirmed the incident.

“The victims were three adult males and three females. The two vehicles scattered in pieces and it was difficult identifying the victims as a result of the impact of the collision,” he stated.

“We couldn’t find the registration numbers of the two vehicles, either people took them away or because of the impact of the clash; we couldn’t just locate them.

“Two of the victims were trapped under the truck and it took our men hectic time to push out the truck before we could bring them out dead.”

Abubakar advised motorists to avoid driving in the night especially when they have issue with their sight and avoid high speed.
