Egypt coach reveals why they lost against Super Eagles

Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz has offered some explanation as to why his team lost to the Super Eagles in thei opening Group D tie at the Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday.

A sweet 30th minute belter, intelligently struck by Kelechi Iheanacho earned Nigeria a first-ever opening match win over Egypt at any AFCON tournament.

Queiroz described the performance of the Pharaohs against the Super Eagles as disappointing; especialy the first half which he admitted was very poor.

“The performance in the first half was very poor, and that’s the truth, we weren’t on the pitch,” Queiroz told beIN Sport TV after the game.

“We only started playing in the second half. There’s no clear reason behind this failure and defeat against Nigeria.

“We lost this match but there are still six points up for grabs against Sudan and Guinea-Bissau in order to qualify from the group,”

With this win, Nigeria sit on top of Group D following the stalemate recorded between Sudan and Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday night

On their part, the seven-time African champions are bottom after the first set of games.
