Veteran Nigerian musician Bright Chimezie has returned to the spotlight after a recent meeting with Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

The two artists connected in Lagos shortly after Davido released his new album, 5IVE. In a series of Instagram clips shared on Monday, May 16, Davido was seen warmly welcoming Chimezie and engaging in conversation with him. Chimezie is widely celebrated for his signature “Zigima” music style.

This in-person meeting followed an earlier video call in which Davido expressed admiration for Chimezie’s work. He specifically credited Chimezie’s 1984 track Because of English as a creative influence behind his latest single With You, featuring Omah Lay.
Just two days after their encounter, Because of English entered the Spotify Nigeria Top 100 chart for the first time, debuting at No. 99. The song reflects on Chimezie’s childhood experience of being punished in school for his inability to speak English.
