In a post shared via his Instagram page, Alimi expressed his disappointment, stating that many Lagos-based gay men enjoy the benefits of activism and community development without actively contributing to the efforts behind them. According to him, despite the increasing visibility and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community in certain areas, the financial burden of pushing the movement forward often falls on a select few.

Alimi, who has been a vocal figure in advocating for LGBTQ+ rights in Nigeria and globally, emphasized the importance of community involvement and accountability. He noted that progress cannot be sustained if those who benefit from it are not willing to invest in it, whether through funding, volunteering, or showing public support.
His comments have since sparked conversations online, with some agreeing with his stance while others feel his message could have been communicated differently. Regardless, Alimi’s post has reignited discussions about internal support and responsibility within Nigeria’s LGBTQ+ community.
