Air Canada plane crash: 2 Dies as Plane and Ground Vehicle Collide

Air Canada plane crash: The captain and co-pilot of an Air Canada Express regional plane were killed after colliding with a fire truck while landing at New York’s LaGuardia airport late on Sunday, causing the airport to close, according to authorities and US media.

According to sources, police officers were in charge of the fire engine. A sergeant and an officer were reported to have fractured limbs and are in stable condition in a hospital.

The Air Canada Express CRJ-900 plane, operated by its partner Jazz Aviation, was transporting 72 passengers and four crew members from Montreal, according to a preliminary passenger list that was still being confirmed.

According to the flight tracking website Flightradar24, the aircraft collided with the fire vehicle at a speed of approximately 24 miles per hour (39 kph), with the final data collected at 11:37 p.m. ET (0337 GMT).

According to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the airport will be closed until 2 p.m. ET on Monday (1800 GMT). According to Flightradar24, 18 flights were diverted to mostly of which are in the New York area.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reports that the firefighting vehicle was responding to a separate incident when it was struck by an aircraft on Runway 4 at the airport.

According to New York City’s emergency notice system, passengers can expect cancellations, road closures, traffic delays, and emergency personnel near the airport.
