Sowore offers to fight DJ Chicken’s case, says TikToker should not be behind bars

African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has offered to support controversial disc jockey and TikTok personality, Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, following his arraignment over alleged threats against Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.

The activist made the offer in a post shared on his X account on Monday, saying he was willing to advocate for the content creator and assist in challenging what he described as burdensome charges brought against him.

The development has generated fresh reactions online, with many Nigerians debating freedom of expression, cybercrime prosecutions and the treatment of young content creators by law enforcement authorities.

Sowore pledges legal support for DJ Chicken

Sowore wrote, “If anyone knows how to reach DJ Chicken’s family or relatives, I will be happy to advocate for him and help him challenge the burdensome charges brought against him by the jobless @PoliceNG.”

He also questioned the decision to prosecute the TikToker, insisting that imprisonment was unnecessary in the circumstances.

Sowore added, “I want to help get DJ Chicken out of prison because I do not believe he deserves to spend a day behind bars; he is entitled to his liberty under the law.”

He further stated, “Young Nigerians need opportunities, guidance, and justice, not persecution and endless incarceration.”

Court grants bail as case continues

DJ Chicken has pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge bordering on alleged threat to kill, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and offences under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

A Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos, granted him bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum but ordered that he remain at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until the bail conditions are met.

The case has continued to attract widespread public attention, with Sowore’s intervention adding another dimension to the ongoing conversation. The matter has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
