Lady sues Peller, demands N395 million in damages

A Lagos-based lady, Osarobo Odigie, has taken legal action against popular TikTok streamer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, over alleged defamation, cyber harassment, and invasion of privacy following a confrontation at a lounge.

In a pre-action letter dated March 10, 2026, Odigie’s legal representatives from FA Garrick & Co. accused the influencer of insulting their client and recording her without consent before posting the video online.

How the confrontation allegedly happened

According to the letter, Odigie had visited the lounge to buy food and was standing at the cashier area when the situation began.

Our client was present at Folixxx Lounge… for the purpose of purchasing food. While standing at the counter/cashier area, our client was suddenly startled by your loud outburst directly behind her,” the lawyers stated.

They said Odigie moved away from the influencer because of the noise, but he allegedly confronted her and demanded to know why she stepped aside.

The letter further alleged that the influencer told her to “shut up” and began verbally insulting her when she asked him to moderate his behaviour in a public space.

According to the lawyers, the insults included Yoruba curses such as “Oloriburuku,” “Omo Ale,” and “Ashawo,” which they described as defamatory and humiliating.

Video recording and viral backlash

The claimant’s legal team also accused the streamer of recording the confrontation without her permission and sharing the clip across several social media platforms.

The lawyers said the video was later posted on platforms including Snapchat, WhatsApp, TikTok and Instagram, where it quickly gained attention due to the influencer’s large following.

They argued that the viral clip triggered thousands of online comments that allegedly repeated and amplified the insults, leading to harassment and cyberbullying against Odigie.

According to the letter, the situation caused serious emotional distress and damage to her reputation.

Our client has suffered significant emotional distress and has developed genuine fears for her safety,” the lawyers added.

N395 million compensation demand

As part of the demands, Odigie is seeking a total of N395 million in damages.

Her legal team is asking for N200 million for the alleged defamatory publication, N100 million for emotional trauma and reputational damage, and N75 million for distress linked to cyberbullying and threats.

They also demanded N20 million to cover legal fees and other related expenses.

Beyond the financial claims, the lawyers requested that the influencer remove the video from all social media platforms and stop further distribution.

According to the letter, the apology must clearly state that the comments made about their client were “false, malicious and injurious” to her reputation.

Legal action threatened

The legal team also instructed the influencer to notify blogs and other platforms that reposted the video to ensure its removal within seven days.

They warned that failure to meet the demands would lead to the immediate filing of a lawsuit.

Should you fail, refuse, or neglect to comply… our client shall, without further recourse to you, institute appropriate legal proceedings against you,” the letter stated.

Earlier apology from Peller

The dispute follows a widely shared confrontation between the streamer and the woman at the Lagos lounge on January 6.

Days after the incident, on January 9, released a public apology video after facing criticism online.

In the clip, he admitted that his reaction during the altercation was out of character and expressed regret for his conduct.
