Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has expressed concern over the rising level of tribal and religious tension in the country.
The artiste said the situation has been depressing for him, especially seeing how Nigerians continue to allow political and religious differences to divide them.

His reaction follows heated arguments between Christian and Muslim youths on social media after reports emerged that US President Donald Trump allegedly threatened to launch military action in Nigeria to protect Christians from terrorist attacks.

Falz described the development as unfortunate, stressing that Nigerians must stop allowing religion and ethnicity to be used as weapons of division.
Nasboi’s post triggers Falz’s response

Falz made the comment in response to a post by fellow entertainer Nasboi, who had urged citizens to unite and hold leaders accountable for corruption and poor governance.

Nasboi had condemned Nigerians’ silence on political issues, reminding them of several scandals involving missing public funds.

In his post, Nasboi urged citizens to put the country’s progress above tribal and religious sentiments. “It’s time to put our tribes and religions aside and put this country first,” he wrote.

Reacting to the statement, Falz said the increasing use of ethnic and religious narratives by politicians has made the country’s situation even more disheartening.

Falz noted that Nigeria cannot move forward unless citizens begin to think for themselves and reject manipulative political tactics.

According to him, leaders often exploit religious and tribal divisions to maintain power while the masses remain distracted.

“I cannot begin to explain how depressing it has been in recent years, seeing tribal and religious sentiments still being used to turn us against each other. At some point, we need to start thinking for ourselves,” he said.
