The Jane Goodall Institute has learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute has passed away due to natural causes. She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States.

Dr. Goodall’s discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world.

Dr. Jane Goodall was born on April 3, 1934, in London, England, and went on to become one of the world’s most renowned primatologists and conservationists.

During her lifetime, Dr. Jane Goodall dedicated herself to groundbreaking research on chimpanzees, tireless advocacy for conservation, and inspiring global movements for animal welfare and environmental protection.

Her passing leaves a legacy that is truly irreplaceable.

Additionally, she was the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and Roots & Shoots, a global youth-led community action program focused on conservation, compassion, and service to the planet.
