The controversy began when a content creator, Olaoluwa Segun, published a viral video alleging that five Nigerian actors, including Amusa and Hanks Anuku, were HIV positive. Reacting via her Instagram page, Amusa expressed disbelief and disappointment over the misinformation.

According to the actress, the rumour stemmed from a post she made in 2019 to raise awareness about HIV and encourage the public to get tested. She clarified that the awareness message was twisted and misrepresented by Segun, who failed to verify the facts before making such a serious allegation.
Amusa, who strongly stated that she is HIV-negative, criticized the recklessness of spreading baseless claims that could damage reputations. She challenged the content creator to present proof of any medical facility or lab that allegedly confirmed her status.

“Not because I find pleasure in doing it, but because that will teach you a lesson and some other stupid content creator and blogger that if you have to make a headline, verify, as questions before putting people on the spot”, she said.
