Nigerian LGBTQ+ rights activist Bisi Alimi has openly criticized gay men in Lagos for what he describes as a lack of financial and moral support towards initiatives that promote the rights and well-being of the queer community.

In a post shared via his Instagram page, Alimi expressed his disappointment, stating that many Lagos-based gay men enjoy the benefits of activism and community development without actively contributing to the efforts behind them. According to him, despite the increasing visibility and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community in certain areas, the financial burden of pushing the movement forward often falls on a select few.
